Joint Support Ships (JSS)

Royal Canadian Navy

Vard Electro Canada is currently collaborating with Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards on two vessels for the Royal Canadian Navy. These ships will operate away from port for long periods of time to replenish naval task groups, as well as provide training support and humanitarian operations. When completed, these vessels will have improved manoeuverability and defence capabilities that will allow them to enter demanding environments.

Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel (OOSV)

Canadian Coast Guard

Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards named Vard Electro AS the Specialized System Integrator (SSI) for the OOSV for the Canadian Coast Guard. Vard Electro Canada is responsible for developing and delivering the power and propulsion system package, including equipment, and ensuring smooth integration on the vessel of all components within this package. The OOSV will be the primary oceanographic science platform for Fisheries and Oceans Canada. When completed, this vessel will be equipped with the latest scientific research apparatus in order to meet its crucial mission to increase the overall understanding of the impact that climate change has on the oceans.

Our Solution

Engineering, integration, and procurement of the following:

    • Bow Tunnel Thruster
    • Bow and Azimuth VFD

Oceanographic Science Vessel - Canadian Coast Guard

Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV)

International Coast Guard Agency

Our affiliates, Vard Marine, appointed Vard Electro Canada to carry out the electrical engineering scope of work to support a 4-vessel contract for the Vard 7 125 for an offshore patrol vessel (OPV) with an international coast guard agency. The vessel is 125 meters long and 4,000 tons and will become the first vessel in the coast guard’s fleet to include a helicopter hanger. It will be used for carrying out humanitarian aid and disaster relief (HADR) operations.

In supporting Vard Marine, Vard Electro Canada conducted Evaluation Studies and a Critical Concept Design for five potential single class new major vessels (NMV) for BC Ferries.

This included evaluation and concept design for:
